A few months back my sister gave me a Breville Juicer. I know, she’s only the best sister ever. For a long time I only used it to make juices for Gregory so that we could cut out all the extra sugar he consumes through juice boxes and juice from concentrate. This last month and a bit, however, I’ve gotten brave and started making juices for myself. Today I wanted to share with you 5 delicious juice recipes that I meal prep on Sunday so I can enjoy a healthy drink all week long.
Meal Prep Sunday
Do you meal prep? I am a huge fan and advocate of meal prepping. Even if it isn’t a substantial amount, easing the burden of making a meal or two each week takes a huge load off. Especially as a single mom. I often find myself forgetting to feed myself, or I am so exhausted by the end of the night that dinner consists of Mr.Noodles, tofu, and frozen vegetables. I don’t meal prep hardcore, but I am slowly getting better at it.
While juices like these listed below aren’t a true meal, although you can certainly detox and make it a meal, I still consider this meal prepping. In the mornings when I’m in a rush, you bet your tushie I’m just grabbing a jar of juice I’ve premade and calling it breakfast. It has all the vitamins and nutrients that my body needs to get a boost in the day.
Getting Hydrated through Juicing
Drinking enough water each day has always been a struggle for me. Many people don’t realize that we are essentially dehydrated every morning when we wake up. That’s why doctors and health nutritionist advise us to start the day with a glass of water right when we get up. I wish I was like this. I wish I was the person who has a water bottle or a glass of water sitting at my bedside in the morning so when I wake up I can refresh my body and wake up my system.
I’m not though. Partly because I don’t sleep more than 4 hours a night, and partly because I’m just so friggin lazy and forget when I’m on the way to bed. Juicing is an amazing addition to my life. Automatically I am filling my body with liquid, liquid gold. I never thought I’d consider anything other than breastmilk liquid gold, but I’ll call it how I see it. Homemade juices are liquid gold.
The first few days I was juicing I thought I had a UTI I was peeing so much. Of course it wasn’t, the lack of pain easily determined that. But I couldn’t figure out why I was running to the bathroom with a full bladder all the time. That’s the juice, doing its job. If you’re anything like me and find yourself maybe not keeping up with your water intake, juicing is a great life hack I hope you incorporate into your life to ensure you are staying properly hydrated. It’s literally changed mine.
1 Yellow Pepper
3 Green Apples
1 Bunch of Mint
1 Celery Stalk
4 Celery Stalks
Apples, unless otherwise stated, I often grab Gala apples. They are my favourite. You can use whichever ones you prefer, and don’t be afraid to mix and match and try new apples.
Beets tend to make my juices thick. As well as delicious. If you find your Beet It Juice thick or chunky, try straining it or adding water. It’s also really healthy for you, so don’t be afraid to chew your juice. I know, it sounds weird, but it’s the first step in digestion and there is no reason to not chew it if you feel like it.
And a last note on beets, it will make your pee turn red. I sometimes forget this fact and am surprised during my trip to the bathroom. Even if it’s just one beet, it changes your urine colour. This is really fun to experience if you can get your kids to drink a beet juice as well.
Before You Go
It seems like a big deal to make juice in the middle of a busy week, but meal prepping a few on Sunday and having them ready to go in the fridge is how I rock and roll. I hope you try out these juices and let me know what you think of them. By the end of the week when I’ve already drank all my juices I find myself a little sad and craving that liquid gold.
If you’ve got a favourite juice recipe, leave it or link it in the comments. I’m always on the hunt for new recipes. I’m still pretty new and go for basic juices that are easy and guaranteed good simply because I know the ingredients would mix well together. But I’m getting braver and am totally ready to branch out. #SharingIsCaring
