Indoor Play Day
It’s important to have lots of options for indoor fun with your Little as the weather keeps turning more and more gloomy outside. Gregory and I drove just outside Vancouver to play at Crash Crawly’s a while back.
Today I wanted to share this type of play zone establishment for kids with you so that you get inspired to seek one out similar in your area.
When I was a little girl on Vancouver Island, we had Play Zone. It was the best place a parent could take their kids and their friends to play for hours and hours. It was a jungle gym for kids, with slides, jumbo balls, gliders and arcade games.
Then one parent got injured, sued the business and it was gone.
Alternative Play Zone Names
Since then, I have found a variety of ‘Play Zones’ that are being run under a different business name. Here are a few that I’ve come across.
As you can see, there are a lot of names that a play zone can go under. So while I am reviewing Crash Crawly’s, you can most likely find a similar establishment in a city near you.
Or you can road trip to Coquitlam and check out Crash Crawly’s.
A Kids Dream
Gregory and I got to Crash Crawly’s right as they opened, hoping to get in before it got busy. We were the only ones playing for an hour! The whole play zone was ours to run wild in. I recommend trying to go early.
Walking to the front of Crash, there is a window wall that you can look through to the play area inside. Gregory stopped and stared through here. Right off the bat my two year old was excited to go play.
Like any good business, it’s got incentives for you to come and play certain days of the week. On Tuesdays you get 1 free laser tag game per child with 1 admission purchase. Wednesdays you get 1 free fame of mini golf per child per purchase.
It’s not too bad of a deal, because you only have to pay for your kid. As an adult to a toddler, I wondered if I would have to pay $12.99 to go in the play area and help Gregory climb around.
I didn’t have to pay, parents can climb with their kids to help for free.
Here at Crash, there is a variety of activities that are offered for the kids to play with. What is offered does vary from business to business. All play zone areas have the jungle gym to play on, Crash Crawly’s activities offered will be the bolded ones below.
- Jungle Gym
- Toddler Play Area
- Laser Tag
- Mini Golf
- Arcade Games
- Train Ride
- Arcade Games
- Prize Area for Arcade Tickets
- Remote Control Car Track
- Bumper Cars
- Bumper Boats
- Light Space
- Ballistic Zone
- Kiddie Rides
- Air Trek
- Amusement Rides
I could scan play zone websites for hours and keep adding to the list of fun activities that you Little can get to experience when they hit up a Play Zone. Crash Crawly’s offers a lot on the list. Aside from the actual Jungle Gym, his favourite activity is the train and ball drop zone. Figures.
There are a few ground rules at these establishments. The first being that there is no outside food or drinks allowed. I’m sure milk for babies will be accepted. That’d be ridiculous otherwise. But these businesses do offer a concession where you can buy drinks and food.
A parent or guardian must be present at all times. You can’t leave a kid unattended here. And if you don’t follow the rules or you/your kid are displaying rude behaviour, they can ask you to leave.
The most important rule is ALL CHILDREN MUST WEAR SOCKS! This is for health reasons. I will put the least icky thought out there of why this is important.
If one kid has a wart on their foot that isn’t covered, they step all over everything, another kid steps there… TA DA! new kid may contract a wart and need to be treated.
Warts are relatively easy to treat. I had several growing up. I went to the doctors to have them frozen and removed as a child, but the pharmacy by your house now carries a wart kit. Very easy, basically all you need is a band-aid to heal it.
Again, a wart is one of those ‘best case scenarios’ for what could go wrong when a bunch of kids are running around barefoot.
If your kid wants more traction, get them socks with grips on the bottom. Or better yet, hot glue gun some lines on the bottom of socks they already have and it’s no cost to you.
A Workout For Mom
Something that I was not expecting when we went to Crash Crawly’s was a workout. The lifting of Gregory up the ledges that were just an inch or two too tall for him to manage on his own wasn’t too bad. It’s the crawling and moving myself through the jungle gym that worked up my sweat!
If you’re a #FitMom, you’re going to really like this as an activity. I advise all parents to wear clothing they can move around in easily, and that breathes. If your kid gets stuck… or lost, you gotta go up and get them. It’s a maze, it can take a while.
Oh, shorts wont protect your legs from rug/slide burn. And spandex/ Lululemon type material clothes act like lube on the slides. You better be prepared to go fast if you’re in workout gear.
I took a few photos at the start of our play day, but then I tried to get carried away just playing with Gregory. I loved his smile, the whole time we played. He had a blast and didn’t want to leave.
Before You Go
I hope you enjoyed checking out Crash Crawly’s with Gregory and me. I definitely recommend you hitting up Google with ‘Play Zone [insert city]’ and locating a similar establishment near you. It’s hours of fun.Now searching for a #PlayZone to let my kid loose in. Hello nap time after! Click To Tweet
And the best part? When you get home, the kid is exhausted and naps really well. Can I get a mom-five? We all need more places like this to let our kids loose in.
Let me know what the name of a local Kids Play Zone and the city it’s located in down in the comments. Maybe another parent will be saved the task of Googling it themselves. #SharingIsCaring
